Maintenance Strategy and PM Harmonization: On-Site Workshops for Offshore FPSO Fleet Standardization

We are pleased to share that our engineering team recently was on the ground in Rio de Janeiro, running a technical workshop series with one of the top 5 global FPSO companies as part of our ongoing Maintenance Strategy and PM Alignment project. This initiative focused on optimization of asset maintenance management across the customer’s FPSO fleet operating in Brazilian waters.

When optimising maintenance routines across offshore assets, remote reviews only take you so far. Bringing the professionals into the same room with the operations, maintenance, and CMMS teams is what gets complex technical information aligned. And this project runs on exactly that kind of direct technical collaboration.

For two weeks, Vitalii Yeliashevskyi, Liubov Dultseva, and Maksym Hlozhyk held the on-site sessions in Rio de Janeiro, focusing on the practical objectives:

  • Maintenance Strategy Definition

Establishing a unified maintenance strategy framework covering the Barrier Management Activities, Preventive Maintenance (PM), Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), and Run-to-Failure.

The maintenance strategies also incorporate requirements issued by regulatory bodies like Classification Societies, Flag administrations, alongside Brazil’s layered regulatory landscape — labour and safety norms (NRs), National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), maritime authority rules (NORMAM), environmental and health bodies (ANVISA, IBAMA, CONAMA) and others. The resulting strategy holds up to both operational and regulatory checks.

  • Gap Analysis

A structured gap analysis is a critical alignment activity that enables the early identification of inconsistencies, duplicate activities, missing requirements, and deviations from established maintenance strategies, preventing these issues from being carried forward into the CMMS environment and operational workflows.

  • PM Alignment & CMMS Readiness

Maintenance catalogue alignment is carried out through the harmonization of work instructions, maintenance intervals, and related maintenance data prior to CMMS migration. The result is a clean and consistent maintenance catalogue that supports efficient execution, improves data quality, and reduces unnecessary workload by eliminating duplicate or non-value-adding work orders.

Why It Matters

A maintenance strategy matters because it forces us to answer a basic question first: why are we maintaining this piece of equipment at all, and what’s the right way? The same or similar equipment can end up maintained completely differently across company assets — not because the equipment is different, but because of who set things up historically, which engineer was involved, what the vendor recommended, regulatory demands, or simply what got carried over in old CMMS data. The result is inconsistency and a lot of avoidable work.

Building a solid maintenance strategy comes down to clean data, regulatory precision, and open-minded technical discussions and collaboration. What proved most valuable in Rio wasn’t just the data review — it was the live discussions and alignment among stakeholders that only happen face-to-face.

Let’s Talk

Every fleet’s maintenance challenges are different — with 15+ years working on CMMS implementations, migration, regulatory compliance, and PM optimization across offshore industries, we’ve built an approach that adapts to yours.
